Final Debate
Mud Puddle Films' new psychological political thriller

Three presidential candidates are mysteriously trapped in a room together by unseen captors. The last thing they remember is being at the final debate.

Republican incumbent Yvette Andersen is a no-nonsense evangelical Christian for whom image is everything. Democratic candidate Senator John Bowman is a quiet, hyper-vigilant, black Catholic and former Marine Colonel. Green candidate Patrick Weller is a white, agnostic religious studies professor from New York whose bullying manner masks his insecurity.

Their discovery of a severed ear leads to speculation about its meaning and to further conflict over what they should do. The candidates’ opposing politics, personalities, and religious views challenge them every step of the way, and fear of their captors gradually gives way to claustrophobic suspicion of each other. Attempted alliances and secret middle-of-the-night actions feed their mistrust.

The film eschews action thrills in favor of a penetrating study of the characters and a slow-burn paranoia that leave the characters and audience always off-balance.

Final Debate was shot in January and is currently in post-production. It will be released this spring as Internet episodes and on a DVD with discussion questions and other extras.
